The Dictionary of Units of Measurement, designed and maintained by Russ Rowlett of the University of North Carolina, is the most complete and authoritative resource of this kind that we know of. It contains interesting and useful information about all the units of measurement that appear in school -- English customary and metric -- as well as historical information, conversion information, measurement systems of international and cultural interest, units used in specialized fields (e.g., scientific measures, earthquakes, loudness, hat or shoe sizes), and so on.

It is a great resource for student browsing, curiosity, and research.
