Geometry

Meaning

Geometry is the branch of mathematics concerned with shapes and their properties. The systematic study of geometry dates back to at least the Greeks where Euclid codified much of what was know in his Elements.

In school mathematics, the study of geometry includes the properties of two- and three-dimensional figures as well as the study of transformations and coordinates.

Etymology

From Greek via Latin, "to measure the Earth" (geo + metron).
